We just got back from a 7-night, 8-day Disney Cruise on the Disney Dream through the Mediterranean coast of Europe. It was both stunning and exhausting and we were so happy to have booked the room that we did. This blog post will include an in-depth review of our stateroom, which I hope will help you in your future planning.
First, let me begin by saying that this was my first time booking a cruise on the Disney Dream and I did not know what to expect. We booked a category 5C standard verandah stateroom and let Disney choose the room for us. I like doing this as I really don’t think it matters much which stateroom you ultimately end up with. There are pros and cons to them all.
I will say that I am a BIG fan of the verandah category rooms. I have had one on every Disney cruise I’ve taken. While I don’t think it’s necessary, it can be very relaxing for a cruise like this with stunning views of the coast along the way.
We were assigned to Stateroom 7162 which is in the AFT of the ship (essentially the back of the ship). I loved the location of our stateroom. It was close to the elevators and gave us great views from our balcony. If you are a person who likes to know exactly what you’re going to get, then I do recommend booking this exact stateroom for future cruises.
The room was about 246 sq. feet which is pretty spacious for a cruise ship and had the Disney signature split bath, which included one area with a sink and shower, and one with a sink and toilet. (Great for allowing multiple people to get ready at once.)
There is a small refrigerator for any beverages or food you decide to take back to your room (or for the alcohol you bring on board), a safe to keep your valuables, and a lot of storage for your clothing. There are enough drawers and closet space that you can easily fully unpack and put your empty suitcases underneath your bed. (This also helps the room feel less cluttered).
One pro tip is to bring extra hangers. There are a fair amount of hangers in the closet but if you want to hang up everything, bring some extras. Inside the closet you’ll also find slippers and robes. I sadly only discovered the luxury of the robes on the last two nights of the cruise. When I say this robe was heaven, I mean it! It was so soft and comfortable. And I’m usually not a fan of hotel robes.
Another pro tip when unpacking is to give all of your wrinkled formalwear to your cabin “host” at check-in. There is on-board laundry (at an additional cost) and they will press it all for you! This was very convenient. It was expensive so I will caution on that, but I thought it was worth every penny.
The rooms all come with TVs that provide a plethora of Disney entertainment to choose from. If you can’t make the evening performances in the main theater, you can even watch those from your stateroom! The only catch is that you have to watch it live (there is no playback). Another thing we discovered on this cruise that we were obsessed with, was the cruise line’s own morning show! Every day the cruise director and special guests would give a rundown of that day’s activities. From things you need to know about the ports we were visiting to nighttime entertainment and special happenings around the ship, every day they set us up with what we needed to know for that day. And it was super entertaining! The morning show plays on loop, so you can watch it whenever you wake up.
This category room also includes a convertible couch-bed so if there are more than two of you staying in the stateroom there is another bed for a third person. Each day, your cabin host provided turn-down service so they’ll make up the bed for you. And each day, your cabin host also cleans your stateroom and makes your beds! It really feels like a luxury experience.
Since our cruise was a European cruise, I wasn’t entirely sure what type of outlet to pack but the Disney Dream comes equipped to handle both standard American and European electrical plugs. Since this was my third cruise, we also received a complementary bag and lanyard when we got into our room. Getting a free gift always makes the start of the cruise extra special.
Last but not least is the verandah itself. This is the main reason for booking this category of room and ours was spectacular. We spent a lot of nights out here enjoying a snack and a glass of champagne. If you are booking two adjoining staterooms, there is even a way to connect your verandahs to make it even bigger!
We absolutely loved our Oceanview Verandah Room on the Disney Dream and would highly recommend for anyone traveling on this cruise ship!
