What is Magic Happens?
This parade features a brand-new song as well as 8 new floats, created uniquely for the Disneyland Resort. It’s an 18-minute energetic entertainment experience featuring some of the best parade choreography I’ve ever seen.
When Does the Parade Start?
Currently the parade is running twice a day (at 3:30pm and 6:00pm). The first parade takes place during the heat of the day and the second right is after sunset, making both a very different experience.
Where is the Best Place to Watch?
There are different schools of thought on this one and really depends on your objectives. The first parade begins next to It’s a Small World and makes its way down to the castle and up Main Street. The second parade goes in reverse, beginning at the top of Main Street and making its way down to the castle before finishing at It’s a Small World.
It’s always best to find a spot where your body is facing the direction the parade will be coming from. For the early parade this means finding a spot on the shady side of the street (this is the left side of the street if you are looking at the castle and the left side of the street if you are looking at It’s a Small World). Spots along Main Street ensure a good view, as well as spots along the parameter of Town Square (just make sure your body is angled in the direction the parade will be coming from. You can always ask a cast member if you are unsure).
For the second parade, the best spots to watch are on the opposite side of the street (so the right side of the street if you are looking at the castle and the right side of the street if you are looking at It’s a Small World).
Where are the Best Places to Watch for Photographers?
The absolute best place to view the first parade if you are a photographer is on the curb at the top of Main Street directly facing the castle. This allows for amazing shots of the performers head-on, with the castle in the background. If these spots are already taken, the next best spots for photos are along Main Street right next to the trash cans. You want the trash can to be in between you and the party next to you depending on which direction the parade is coming from. This is a great trick as these spots prevent people from leaning forward and obstructing your shot right at the moment you want to capture it!
When Should You Start Looking for a Spot?
Due to the newness and excitement built around this parade, people started camping out about 2 hours before show time (during opening weekend). I anticipate that for the next couple of weeks, especially on the weekends, it will continue to go something like that. After about the first month, however, you should be able to find a spot about 1 hour ahead of time. And if you don’t care much about where you watch, you will likely be able to find a spot 30 minutes prior.
That covers all of the basics! I hope you found this article helpful and are able to enjoy this incredible Disneyland parade very soon.
