Like everyone, I have a bucket list. In fact, I have several travel related bucket lists. Over the last several years, as I’ve been traveling more and more, the bucket lists have actually grown. (How is that possible?!) So today I’m sharing specifically what’s on my Disney inspired travel bucket list. I hope some of these locations will inspire you as you are dreaming up where to go on your next trip too! (Maybe we can even check them off the list together.)
African Safari – The Lion King
This one is top of the list, for sure. An African safari has always been on my travel bucket list but after the live action Lion King came out in theaters in 2019, it moved up a bit. I was actually supposed to go on my very first safari this September! (Stupid Covid). What I’m most looking forward to, is being out on the African plains at sunrise and seeing animals in their natural environments. Have you been to Africa? Share your favorite experiences in the comments below!
Fiji, Bora Bora, and Tahiti – Moana
Well first off, who doesn’t want to go to Tahiti? I think this one kind of speaks for itself. After the year we’ve all had, I need a tropical vacation…. Like stat. I also just love this movie so much. The tale of an independent strong girl, out in search of her destiny. That’s where I’m at in my own personal journey so it resonates quite strongly with me.
U.S. Road Trip – A Goofy Movie
For anyone who’s been following me this summer, then you know I’ve really gotten pretty good at the whole road-tripping-across-America thing. It’s been my goal for about a month or so now, to up my game a bit. And what better way to do that then by figuring out a way to recreate the father/son road trip that Goofy and Max took from Ohio to Los Angeles?! Yes, most of the places they visit are fictional… but I’m pretty convinced that with a little digging, I can find some real-life spots that just might have the same quirky Goofy sensibilities.
Norway – Frozen
Visiting Iceland at the top of the year really opened my eyes to how cool winter-focused trips can be. Ever since moving away from Wisconsin 15 years ago, I’ve vowed to keep winters far far away. (At that point I’d seen enough snow to last a lifetime). But I let my guard down and went to Iceland in the dead of winter because I was desperate to see those Elsa-inspired blue ice caves! Now I’m just as desperate to go to Norway and see the real-life reindeer that inspired Sven!
Taj Mahal – Aladdin
Not only is the Taj Mahal maybe the most beautiful real-life building I’ve ever seen in MY LIFE but I also cannot get the scent of jasmine out of my mind when I think of visiting it. (Thank you very much Soarin’.) I don’t know when I’ll be making my way to India but I definitely hope to experience this one-day in person.
Great Barrier Reef in Queensland – Finding Nemo
I’ve still yet to visit Australia. I keep waiting for the “right” time. If I’m going to go, then I definitely want to snorkel along the great barrier reef in Queensland (home of Nemo) but I also want to visit Sydney and Melbourne and Tasmania… and well, this just feels like a BIG trip. A trip in which I would maybe need to stay in Australia for a month. So much of Finding Nemo was inspired by this country and I really need to do more of a deep dive (no pun intended) before I hop on a plane.
Scotland – Brave
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, do I want to go to Scotland. Not only because I want to see the Highlands of Brave but also because I’m freakin’ obsessed with Outlander (not Disney, but still…). I picture myself galloping on horseback through the fjords with the cold wind blowing my hair while feeling an intense moment of pure freedom. If that’s not Merida then I don’t know what is.
Climb Machu Picchu – The Emperor’s New Groove
I’ve been wanting to do a thorough sweep of South America for a while now and climbing Machu Picchu is definitely top of the list. I need to get on this one rather quickly before I’m “too old” to do it without dying. Have you done Machu Picchu yet? Leave your training tips in the comments below!
Mexico City – Coco
I’ve been to Mexico many times throughout my life but never outside of the popular coastal towns. I’d love to go to Mexico City and get a taste for real Mexican culture. There are also several locations in and around Mexico City that directly inspired scenes in Coco.
Alaska – Brother Bear
While this choice may seem like a sleeper, but it’s definitely one of the top destinations on my list. Alaska is one of those locations in the U.S. that doesn’t feel all that easily accessible. It also has an air of mystery surrounding it (at least to me). With parts of the year getting less than 5 hours of daylight, you’ve got to wonder what people do. I would love to visit and get some serious hiking and camping in (during the right time of year, of course) and try to catch a glimpse of the famous Northern Lights!
These are just a couple of examples of what’s on my Disney inspired travel bucket list but there are lots more places in both the United States and abroad that I would like to visit one day. I’m excited to continue exploring the world in search of that Disney magic and to bring those details to you over here on the blog as you begin planning your own vacations.
What’s on your bucket list? Any additional places I should be sure to check out?
