Heading out on a road trip this Fall (or any time of year)? Then you don’t want to be caught off-guard (especially during this pandemic). See what’s in my road trip preparedness kit in today’s post. This kit goes everywhere I do! Even on 1-day road trips.
What’s in My Road Trip Kit
The Best Products for Keeping Clean
The most important part of any kit are the sanitation products included and I definitely have my favorites. In fact, I have so many different variations of sanitization products because you can never be too prepared, especially during Covid.
For hand sanitizer, I recommend the following based on a few different factors:
Smell
Travel Sized
Medical Grade
Hand sanitizer is the #1 item to have on you at all times. You never know when you’ll come into contact with something or someone that could be spreading germs.
The next most important thing to pack are wipes! For these, I recommend:
It’s super important to have a pack of wipes handy especially if you’re going to public places such as gas stations, grocery stores, and even your hotel lobby. Every time you touch something like a door handle you should sanitizer your hands. I often will just open the door while holding one of these wipes.
I also use general disinfecting wipes & paper towels for wiping down the inside of my car periodically, and for general clean-up and/or spills.
The Best Masks
Unfortunately, we’re now living in a world in which it’s essential to have masks on you at all times. I use a few different masks depending on the situation.
For quick on-the-go masks, I use these disposable medical masks:
I also like to keep a bandana with me in case I am going on a long walk or hike. This is easy to take up and down as you encounter other people on the trail. (Please note, I only use this when I’m hiking on deserted trails. If you’re going to a very populated hiking spot, it’s better to wear an actual mask).
I am still on the hunt for an everyday mask that is breathable AND fashionable. If you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments below!
The Best Products for Charging Your Gear
The last thing you want on a road trip is for your cell phone or camera to die. I’ve found some super handy car-designed charging cords to help prevent this from happening. I have an old 2007 Prius so I actually don’t have an auxiliary plug. If you do, that makes things so much easier!
I have the RapidX 5 Port Charger and I LOVE it. It allows me to charge multiple devices at the same time.
If you’re looking for something a bit smaller, I also swear by Anker chargers. They’ve been my constant companion on every trip I’ve taken since 2015.
What I Do for Entertainment
The Best Road Trip Snacks
Man have I gotten good at the art of road trip snacking. On some days, these snacks have become critical; keeping me awake or entertained. Usually on a road trip, I allow myself to indulge in snacks I would never normally eat. This is another way for me to be excited about the long hours of driving ahead!
Below are some of my go-to snacks:
The Best Free Audiobooks & Podcasts
Not all road trips need to be 20 hours, but with the right audio entertainment, you can make those feel like half the time! I usually download a combination of audiobooks and podcasts before I head out on every trip, just to make sure I have something to listen to when I inevitably lose service.
For audiobooks, the main resource I use is Overdrive. Overdrive allows you to connect your local library account to the service for access to hundreds of free digital and audio books! How cool is that?!
A few audiobooks I recommend are:
Check them out at your local library using Overdrive or do a 30-day trial with Amazon’s Audible to download for free.
For podcasts, I almost exclusively use Apple Podcasts. There are so many amazing options to choose from. Podcasts have really exploded over the last year which has made road trippers like me VERY happy.
Some of my favorite podcasts are:
- Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
- Stuff You Should Know
- On Purpose with Jay Shetty
- Work in Progress with Sophia Bush
- The Goal Digger Podcast
That’s all for today’s edition of what’s in my road trip preparedness kit. I hope you found some of these recommendations helpful. Let me know what’s in your kit and if you have any additional road trip tips and tricks in the comments below!
